Caregiver Program

This program manages the immigration of foreign nationals who can provide care for children, the elderly or those with medical needs. The applicant starts with a restricted work permit, but it may lead to permanent residency.

At present there are following two active programs in caregiver category through which applicants may apply for work permit and permanent residency:

• Home Child Care Provider Pilot
• Home Support Worker Pilot

Although these programs need a job offer in specific occupations from a Canadian employer, but that job offer is LMIA exempted. The successful applicants may get occupation restricted and their spouses may get open work permits. If applications approved, spouse and dependents are eligible to come to Canada along with the principal applicant. This program permits filing of work permit and PR applications at the same time, which is another interesting feature of this program. After earning 24 months of work experience, the applicants are eligible to apply for permanent residence.
